Born in Dublin, Ireland, on July 26, 1856, George Bernard Shaw was the only son and third and youngest child of George Carr and Lucinda Elizabeth Gurly Shaw. In November 1915, George Kessler and his wife Cora formally organized the British, French, and Belgian Permanent Blind Relief War Fund in Paris. The Kesslers asked Helen Keller, then 35 years old, for her support and the Permanent Blind Relief War Fund for Soldiers & Sailors of the Allies was incorporated in New York State in 1919.
